JACKSON, Wyo. — The National Museum of Wildlife Art (NMWA) is inviting fiber and textile artists to submit artwork for the upcoming exhibition A Conceptual Thread, a show featuring quilting, weaving, tapestry and knitting to tell stories about wildlife and nature.
According to a NMWA press release, this exhibition “explores the meditative nature of textile and fiber arts and connects to the themes of hope and resiliency, balancing beauty with the harsh realities of the world.”
Artwork submissions and any questions about this community exhibition should be sent to Associate Curator of Education and Outreach Patrice Gonzales at pgonzales@wildlifeart.org. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 31, and selected artists will be notified by April 15.
Artwork specifications are as follows:
- Works must depict wildlife and be textile or fiber art.
- Artworks must not exceed 96 inches in height.
- Artwork must be available for display for the duration of the exhibit, May 30 through Nov. 7.
- Artworks containing organic materials (i.e. plant matter, fur, feathers or bone) cannot be accepted due to risks of insects, mold and other possible organic materials being introduced that are potentially harmful to artwork.
- To be selected for the exhibit, artists must submit completed artworks only.
- Only one submission per artist, but works may be collaborative (worked on by one or more artists).
The exhibit will also actively involve local residents and Museum visitors by inviting them to participate in a communal tapestry.
The pieces selected will be displayed in the Wapiti Gallery alongside textile artworks from the permanent collection and pieces on loan during the summer and fall of 2025. Exhibiting artists include Dawn Williams Boyd and Cauleen Smith.
