JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Office of Outdoor Recreation (WYOREC) has officially launched a Teton County Outdoor Recreation Collaborative, expanding its network to 12 collaboratives that serve every county in the state.

The system of collaborative organizations was created to advance WYOREC’s mission of supporting responsible recreation and diversifying the state’s economy. The Teton County collaborative aims to bring together outdoor recreation businesses, nonprofits, clubs, community members, advocacy groups, conservation organizations and elected officials. According to a press release from WYOREC, each group will also receive guidance and participation from state and federal agency advisors.

The Teton County body will host its first informational session on Tuesday, April 21, at the Teton County Library, with a virtual option also available. The meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m., and community members are encouraged to attend and get involved. A second meeting is tentatively scheduled for June 4.

“Topics covered during the initial session will include the history and processes of the statewide collaboratives, introductions of the members, identification of the outdoor recreation components that Teton County prioritizes, and recognition of the challenges they are facing,” wrote WYOREC. “Three testimonials from other statewide Collaborative members will also be shared.”

WYOREC and the University of Wyoming recently published a report showing that outdoor recreation accounted for 4.5% of Wyoming’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024. That figure places Wyoming fifth nationally for highest share of state GDP from the recreation industry.
