JACKSON, WY— The winter dog park on Snow King Ave is the hip spot for canine companions this winter.
In an effort to keep the park safe and enjoyable, PAWS of Jackson Hole posted some new rules for using the park: scoop the poop, keep dogs on a leash while entering/exiting the park, dogs must be at least four months old and must be current on their rabies vaccinations.
The newest and perhaps most controversial is that only neutered or spayed dogs are allowed in the park.
The most common dog park altercation involves neutered males aggressing toward intact males, PAWS explained. The scent of an intact male can cause tensions to rise even before the two dogs engage, as it can be perceived as a threat to neutered males. Intact males are therefore at risk or a serious fight, and if you were getting picked on, you’d probably fight back, too!
As for the ladies, bringing an unspayed female into this situation is like bringing Heidi Klum to the Mangy Moose during Après in Man-uary—the heat is on! Don’t let your female pup have to fend off all interested parties herself, she’ll only get irritated and may react aggressively.
