KELLY, Wyo. — A new fire has been spotted in the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) just south of the Gros Ventre Ranch.

The Slide Lake Fire is burning on the hillside across from the local swimming hole locally known as the “Kelly Cliffs,” Buckrail has learned.

Personnel from Grand Teton National Park (GTNP), whose boundary is close to the incident, were seen driving towards the fire, burning close to the Gros Ventre river east of Kelly, on the evening of Monday, Aug. 12. Bystanders at the scene said they had called in the fire and that officials said they were already aware of the blaze.

Both BTNF and GTNP have resources on the scene responding to the wildfire, which covered approximately 0.25 acres as of Monday night, according to BTNF.

The fire has yet to appear on the government site that monitors wildfires, InciWeb.

While the blaze is not in its jurisdiction, GTNP works with the area’s Teton Interagency Fire team on wildfires in the region.

“As far as we know, it’s a small fire,” Jeremy Barnum, press officer for GTNP, told Buckrail.

BTNF has seen several small fires of 0.1 acres in the past few weeks. It remains unclear whether this new incident will stay small or become a larger burn.

This is an ongoing incident and Buckrail will provide updates as they unfold.
