PINEDALE, Wyo. — The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office has shared further information about the hiker who has gone missing in the Wind River Range.

John Diepholz of Minnesota was reported missing on Monday, Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. after he failed to return from a planned 11-day trek in the Wind River Range, which began Aug. 5. He was expected to return on Aug. 16.

64-year-old Diepholz is 6’3″ tall and weighs 170 lbs. He was hiking alone in the area near Wall Lake.

Tip Top Search and Rescue and the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office continue to search for Diepholz via helicopter and on the ground. Weather prevented helicopter and ground searches until Tuesday, Aug. 22. According to the sheriff’s office, more than 200 people in the area have been interviewed. The search is focused on an area about 15 miles from the Elkhart Park trailhead, which is commonly used to access Titcomb Basin.

“The public is asked to come forward with any sightings or information regarding John’s whereabouts,” Sublette County Sheriff’s Office’s Public Information Officer Sergeant Travis Bingham said via press release. “At this time, we are not requesting additional search assistance from the public.”
