JACKSON, Wyo. — Fire crews on Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) are still hard at work despite the arrival of wintery weather.
On Saturday night, BTNF reported that the newly sparked Mill Creek Fire was 100% contained on the Pinedale Ranger District near the Green River Lakes. Firefighters will continue suppressing the 57-acre blaze until it is “declared extinguished,” BTNF posted to Facebook.
Elsewhere on BTNF, pile burning is underway as of Monday, Oct. 27. On the Jackson Ranger District, piles will be burned in the Taylor Mountain area south of town. Crews will burn 93 acres through Wednesday as conditions allow. No closures are expected, and smoke will be visible. There is no need to report smoke in the area.
Slash piles on the Big Piney and Pinedale Ranger Districts will be burned this week, too. BTNF said its crews will be prioritizing piles in the Monument Ridge Fuels Reduction project, located near Bondurant, with an initial focus on the Kilgore Creek/Upper Hoback and Clarks Draw areas. They will also burn piles in Horse Creek, New Fork and Big Sandy. No closures are expected. Smoke might be visible.
BTNF will also conduct a test burn on piles in the Salt Pass area of the Greys River Ranger District south of Afton. If the test goes well, pile burning could begin as early as Tuesday. No closures are expected. The forest asks that the public use caution around firefighting equipment.
