WYOMING — In honor of National Public Lands Day, admission fees will be waived at Wyoming’s national and state parks on Saturday, Sept. 28.

This means visitors can enter Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park for $0. State parks and historic sites in Wyoming will also waive admission fees.

The holiday was established in 1994 and is celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday in September. Thousands of volunteers observe the day by working to restore and improve public lands around the country.

The National Park Service writes on its website that last year, more than 130 national parks hosted volunteer events, with 7,600 attendees donating 41,500 hours of service. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Together for Tomorrow,” emphasizing the preservation of natural resources for future generations to enjoy. See the park service’s website for information on volunteer opportunities.

Saturday marks the fifth of six free admission days in the national parks. Admission was waived on January 15 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, April 20 for the first day of National Park Week, June 19 for Juneteenth National Independence Day and August 4 for the Great American Outdoors Act anniversary. The last free day of 2024 will be Nov. 11, observing Veterans Day.
