JACKSON HOLE, WYO – It’s National Poetry Month and there’s no better time than spring to appreciate language at its most distilled than to take part in a poetry reading. Co-sponsored by Teton County Library and Jackson Hole Writers, “Mud Season: A Poetry Reading” will feature five local poets – Matt Daly, Cassandra Lee, Connie Wieneke, Brian Nystrom, Susan Austin, Susan Marsh, and Betsy Bernfeld – reading original works ranging from narrative to rhyme, from comedic to sublime.

Interested in reading your poem? New poets are invited to read and audience members are encouraged to ask questions. The evening will include a reception with cookies, coffee and tea.

“This is our third poetry reading with JH Writers,” said Leah Shlachter, Adult Program Coordinator at Teton Co. Library. “The readings are fun and casual, so anyone who is curious about poetry should come! A lot of people think that poetry is scary and obscure, but it really isn’t. If you fall into this camp, hearing the poetry from fellow Jackson community members is a warm and inviting place to challenge your assumptions about poetry and what you think you already know.”

“Mud Season: A Poetry Reading,” 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 at Teton County Library’s Ordway Auditorium. Free. Facebook Event

The Academy of American Poets inaugurated National Poetry Month in 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.
