Movement out-of-doors! Summer camps at DW Ballet stock.xchng Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

Starting July 5th, Dancers’ Workshop’s first camp of the season will demonstrate how a change of scenery can inspire and influence choreography. A great way to learn and express their creativity, campers will enjoy improv games, inventing their own movements, and more!

The “Dance-Making Anywhere” camp will be led by Kate Kosharek & Michaela Ellingson, longtime locals and professional dancers at Dancers’ Workshop. Both are on the DW administrative staff but their true passions lie in introducing our youth to the wonderful world of dance. Kosharek and Ellingson currently teach the Introduction to Technique classes, Modern and Ballet to youth at Dancers’ Workshop.

Day One of the camp may very wall draw the attention of dance-loving moms. Multi-disciplinary artist and director of Doggie Hamlet, Ann Carlson, will be making a special appearance to give the students an introductory class on her specialty, site-specifc choreography.

Over the following 2 days, campers will create their own dance indoors and out, exploring site-specifc dance-making concepts, such as:

  • guided improv exercises & games, such as blind-leading
  • inventing their own movements
  • letting the environment influence the choices they make in their dance-making
  • music – creating their own with their voices, clapping, singing – or at times, allowing the environment to be their sound effect

“Dance-Making Anywhere” expands the dancer’s mind to the endless possibilities of artistic expression in dance… but more importantly the camp exposes our young boys and girls to healthy, creative ways to express themselves.

Is your child curious about dance? Or are you a parent, curious about Dancers’ Workshop? A DW Summer Camp is a great way to try DW on for size.

Not a dancer? You don’t have to be a dancer to sign up for a dance camp. Dance is movement! If you can move, you can dance.
