WILSON, Wyo. — Miss the snowman on Moose-Wilson Road?

Due to lack of snow, the resident giant snowman near Teton Village won’t be making an appearance this year, but hopefully better conditions next winter will allow his return.

Yellow Iron Excavating and Waste Removal has used their machinery to shape the larger-than-life snowman every year.

Kalisa Poinsept, Yellow Iron Excavating and Waste Removal Office Manager and daughter of the owners of the small, family-run business, told Buckrail that there wasn’t enough snow this past December to continue their tradition of shaping the beloved snow fixture.

“Hopefully, if we have enough snow by Christmas next year, we will bring it back,” Poinsept said.

In 2012, the family began their Christmas Eve tradition of constructing the snowman. Poinsept explained that she had friends visiting who had never seen snow before and they were excited to build a snowman. Wanting to have fun, Poinsept continued, “I thought, we should use an excavator and build a giant snowman, and it kind of evolved from there. We put a Merry Christmas sign on it, and it turned into our family Christmas Eve tradition. We would build the snowman and then celebrate the holiday.”

The family never expected so much community support and interest surrounding their creation.

“We did it for us, but we love running into people all year long who tell us stories about climbing on or appreciating the snowman,” Poinsept said.
