Moose end 20th season with 20 wins, headed to playoffs as reigning champs
JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The Jackson Hole Moose wrapped up their 20th regular season with win and loss against the Vermont Flex. The Moose will bring their 20-8 record to Sun Valley next weekend as the second seed in the Black Diamond Hockey League championship.
AJ Sanders and Alex Dewitz led the scoring Friday night. Sanders notched a hat trick before the second period was even half over. Dewitz potted two in garbage time. Goalie Nick Krauss was sharp all game, finishing with 36 saves.
After what was likely an epic powder day skiing for both teams on Saturday, it was the Moose that came out a step slow. The Flex beat the Moose to the puck for most of the night and won more of the one-on-one battles.
Forwards Jake Leitner and Tom Hartnett had big nights along with Dewitz who again had the hot hand all weekend. After taking a 3-0 deficit into the first intermission, the second belonged solely to Jackson. A 4-goal outburst made it 4-3 Jackson going into the third.
Vermont retook the lead, and when coach Howie Carruth shortened the bench in the third get back in it, the fatigue really started to show. The Moose were gassed. Vermont clinched victory with an empty net goal for a 6-5 win Saturday.
