JACKSON, Wyo. — Snow and extreme winter weather were in the forecast for both Montana and Wyoming this past weekend, but the two places did not get hit by the same winter storm.
Montana got hit the hardest, prompting Gov. Steve Bullock to declare an emergency Sunday afternoon.
The Associated Press reports the declaration will allow the state to “mobilize resources to help affected areas.” Parts of Montana were hit with wet, heavy snow and high winds. Trees fell, roads closed, and power went out in places across the state.
Jackson, meanwhile, saw more rain than snow in the valley, tough flakes did fall on Saturday morning. Teton and Togwotee Pass were both blanketed in white. No significant damage has been reported despite a flash flood watch in effect through Sunday morning.
