JACKSON, Wyo. — A local dog went missing from his yard in the W. Hansen/Flat Creek area, near the rodeo grounds and Karns Meadow, on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 6.
Oliver is a black and white pit bull, lab mix and was last seen at his home on W. Hansen Ave. at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Saturday evening. He is wearing a red collar with tags and a black bark collar.
The dog’s owner, Alana Alfrey, told Buckrail that Oliver is very skittish and nervous around strangers, but he is not aggressive.
Alfrey said that her two roommates left Oliver and Lucy, a female pit bull, hound mix, at the house for approximately 30 minutes. The indoor house camera recorded Oliver walking through the dog door to the fenced-in yard at 7:40 p.m., prior to the roommates returning home at approximately 8:05 p.m.
Upon returning, the yard’s back gate, against Karns Meadow, was wide open and both dogs were missing. Alfrey noted that the back entrance gate, which is difficult to open, is never used. She said that the side gate used to access the front door was still closed when the roommates returned home. According to the roommates, all the doors and gates were fully shut and secure when they left the dogs at the house.
After a few minutes of calling for both dogs, the friendlier dog Lucy came running out of Karns Meadow, while Oliver has yet to return.
“Maybe someone tried to enter the yard and the dogs got out,” Alfrey said. “It doesn’t make any sense for the side gate to be open. It is super unusual for him to not come back. Any help would be appreciated.”
While there have not been any confirmed sightings of Oliver, a man reported seeing a black, skittish dog on the KC Trail Loop by Pine Drive, near Josie’s trail, at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Alfrey and her roommates have been hiking on Josie’s, Snow King and the KC trails in search of Oliver. Alfrey has also been hanging fliers around town and checking in with the dog shelters and Sheriff’s Office.
“He’s a giant mama’s boy,” Alfrey said. “I know he must be scared and tired. He is my whole world and I just want to bring him home.”
Contact information is on Oliver’s collar, but Alfrey can be reached at (307) 690-9465 if the dog is seen. Her roommates can also be reached at (307) 203-8311 or (908) 229-6124.
