JACKSON HOLE, WYO – In the world of retail, Red Sunday is the new Black Friday.
Jackson Hole welcomed TJ Maxx to the community by turning out in droves to the retail chain store newly opened on Broadway in the former Sports Authority locale. Chalk it up to pent up consumer demand.
A legion of red-shirted “Maxxinista’s (an estimated 30, with 9 checkout registers humming all day) assisted customers during the 12-hour shopping frenzy that kicked off at 8am with honest-to-goodness tailgating in the parking lot and a line out the door 30 minutes before opening with temps in the low teens.
“I can’t get her out of there,” one gentleman was overheard saying at The Wort’s Silver Dollar Bar where five different football games were playing. He wasn’t alone. These new “football widows” grabbed lunch at nearby pubs while the women in their lives filled shopping bags. All day long, the parking lot was overflowing.
Buckrail is waiting to hear from HQ on just how big of an opening it was for TJ Maxx in Jackson, but store manager Jill Harris was certainly pleased with the reception the store received on day one.
