JACKSON, Wyo. — Reggae vibes have extended beyond headliner Stephen Marley for this Saturday, stretching into a triple bill that also includes Mykal Rose & Subatomic Sound System and Nattali Rize. Half of the eight King Concerts atop Snow King Mountain are sold out, though a handful of general tickets remain for this Saturday’s show.
Second son of Bob Marley, Stephen Marley has earned a place in reggae royalty. His solo efforts have kept a foot in traditional roots reggae along with dancehall, hip-hop and collaborations with fellow roots artists Jack Johnson and The Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir. Well steeped in the production side of the industry, he produced brother Damien’s Halfway Tree album, which won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2001.
Mykal Rose is chiefly known for winning a 1983 Grammy Award with Black Uhuru for Best Reggae Album. Subatomic Sound System will join him. Spearheaded by producer, DJ and instrumentalist Emch, New York City’s Subatomic Sound System is on the front lines of the dub music renaissance. He has made a mark with genre bending production with unique adaptation of 1970’s Jamaican sound system culture and dub reggae studio techniques to current music genres, technology and live performances.
Opener Nattali Rize is an Australian-born, Jamaican-based artist known as an ever-evolving dynamic front woman that straddles the line of world beat, reggae and rock.
King Concerts presents Stephen Marley, Mykal Rose & Subatomic Sound System, and Nattali Rize, 6 p.m. Saturday June 29 at Snow King Mountain summit. First gondola ride at 5 p.m., last gondola ride at midnight. SnowKingMountain.com.
