TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. Missoula’s national touring stringband The Lil Smokies formed in 2009 and have been making regular trips to the Tetons since 2015. The grassicana quintet has built a national following through constant touring, performing at Red Rocks, LOCKN’, High Sierra, Telluride, and more despite several lineup changes.

Drawing on the energy of a rock band and the Laurel Canyon songwriting of the ‘70s, The Lil Smokies reimagined their approach to roots music on Tornillo, the band’s third studio album. Produced by Bill Reynolds (The Avett Brothers, Band of Horses), Tornillo was a giant leap forward for the band in 2020, and the momentum has continued into 2022. The band won the 2015 Telluride Bluegrass Band competition and the 2016 IMBA Momentum Band of the Year, which helped propel them onto many of the top stages in bluegrass and beyond.
