JACKSON, Wyo. — In a town defined by its stunning landscapes and fiercely loyal community, Jackson Hole’s businesses continue to meet the moment with exceptional service, and with values-driven leadership. At the forefront of this movement is the Riverwind Foundation and its Sustainable Business Leaders (SBL) and BEST Certification programs.

These programs represent a commitment to sustainability, partnership, connection, and a long-term resilience of this valley. Dozens of local businesses have already taken the step, aligning their operations with practices that honor the environment and the community. From cutting waste and prioritizing resource efficiency to advocating for employee well-being and investing in the local economy, these businesses are proving that purpose and profit can thrive in the same ecosystem, each sustaining each other.

“We’re building something here,” says Riverwind Foundation Executive Director Shannon Shuptrine, “a living, breathing network of businesses that care not just about their bottom line, but about the legacy they leave behind.”

This is about local recognition. As an internationally renowned destination, Jackson Hole holds influence. With every step toward sustainability, Jackson Hole businesses are drafting a blueprint for how values-based leadership can drive long-term impact locally and globally. As SBL members are becoming models for other mountain towns, tourism-based economies, and rural communities seeking a better way forward.

For those already part of this network, these stories have power. Sharing a personal story of “why” can help another business take that first step. Share the video and conversation. Let others know about joining and why it matters.

About Sustainable Business Leaders & BEST Certification

The Sustainable Business Leaders (SBL) program is Jackson Hole’s green business education, resource, and recognition program and membership-based association that has been managed by Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling (ISWR) since 2007. The Riverwind Foundation is Teton County ISWR’s community partner in managing the program, including conducting sustainability education and enrollment sessions with businesses and organizations.

The Business Emerald Sustainability Tier (BEST) Certification Program was created to provide an opportunity and platform for Sustainable Business Leaders (SBL) that want to elevate their sustainability practices to higher levels of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic vitality. The standards in the BEST program are comparable to the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive environmental, community, and economic sustainability criteria.

Businesses interested in joining should reach out to Shannon Shuptrine at shannon@riverwindfoundation.org.
