This year’s American History essay contest topic was “The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.” Turner’s essay was titled “The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers: You Are Not Alone.”

The D.A.R. established these annual essay contests to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation’s great history and learn about history in a new light. Each academic year, unique essay topics are chosen and guidelines are made available.  Essays are judged for historical accuracy, references utilized, adherence to topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness.

Phoebe Turner is the daughter of Polly and Wayne Turner.

She's a lover of alliteration, easy-to-follow recipes and board games when everyone knows the rules. Her favorite aspect about living in the Tetons is the collective admiration that Wyomingites share for the land and the life that it sustains.
