JACKSON, Wyo. — Four local junior racers have been awarded scholarships by the Far West Ski Association (FWSA) to help offset the costs of training and competition in alpine racing.

The recipients, Bard Barnett, Taryn Moe, Taylor Moe and Lucy Wirth, train with the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Scholarships that FWSA awards range in value from $250 to $1,500.

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must meet a weighted set of criteria. They must demonstrate athletic performance in four Alpine disciplines of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association: slalom, giant slalom, super-G and downhill. Academic achievement, community service and financial need are also included in the criteria.

Selections are also made based on perceived long-term contributions the athlete will have on the ski sports and greater community.

Applicants must live or compete in an FWSA geographic region, be licensed as U21, U19 or a second-year U16 (age 15), and compete in a U.S. Ski & Snowboard affiliated Alpine ski racing program.

FWSA is a 501(c)(3) volunteer nonprofit founded in 1930 that represents 130 affiliated ski clubs across the western United States.
