Jackson local Megan Griswold’s debut memoir is already making waves. “The Book of Help: A Memoir in Remedies” made it onto theĀ Los Angeles Times Top Ten list last week, and was endorsed on Goop’s “What to Read list.”

Griswold and renowned author Pam Houston (“Cowboys Are My Weakness” and new releaseĀ “Deep Water”) will give an intimate reading and salon-style book discussion of their new books Tuesday, March 5 at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

Griswold’sĀ “The Book of Help” is a journey, or more of a saga, through a lifetime and an entire world of self-help remedies. From the glaciers of Patagonia and the psycho-tropics of Brazil, to Eastern medicine, to yoga and even an Ivy League education, Griswold “reports from the fringe, the alternative, from the backcountry to the front, in stories that trace her lifelong attempt to become a more loving, more awake, more durable person in an increasingly complex world.” And it all started with a phone call from her new husband, who’s just landed himself in jail. ‘The Book of Help” is equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking. Elizabeth Gilbert, New York Times bestselling author of “Eat Pray Love,” raves: “In a world full of spiritual seekers, Megan Griswold is an undisputed All-Star.ā€

Houston’s book, “Deep Water: Finding Hope in the High Country,” tells the story of “[a]Ā girl who dared herself to buy a ranch, dared herself to dig in and care for it, to work hard enough to pay for it, to figure out what other people meant when they used the world ā€˜home.'” It is an exploration of place, of trauma, and of strength of spirit.

ā€œThere is so much beauty, wisdom, and truth in this book, I felt the pages almost humming in my hands,” writes “Wild” best-selling author Cheryl Strayed. “I was riveted and enlightened, inspired and consoled. This is a book for all of us, right now.ā€

Both authors will stay to sign books and answer questions after their readings Tuesday night, and both books will be available for purchase. You can also buy each book at Valley Bookstore. Palate will provide light refreshments. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.Ā RSVP for this free event atĀ www.deepcreekbookofhelp.rsvpify.com
