MOOSE, Wyo. — It’s the last weekend to take advantage of access to many roads in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. While winter weather has already been causing road closures, the last day of vehicle access on a number of roads is Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Grand Teton National Park
The Teton Park Road will be closed to vehicles from Nov. 1 through April 30 from Taggart Lake Trailhead to Signal Mountain Lodge. The road will be open to biking and foot traffic from Nov. 1 until it is snow-covered. The road will be groomed for skiing, snowshoeing and hiking from mid-December to mid-March.
Moose-Wilson Road also closes Nov. 1 through mid-May. It is unplowed from Death Canyon Road to Granite Canyon Trailhead and in the winter is open to skiing, snowshoeing and hiking.
Other roads such as Antelope Flats, Deadmans Bar, Grassy Lake, Pilgrim Creek, Schwabacher and Two Ocean are closed seasonally based on conditions.
According to the park, roads in GTNP close for the winter for recreational use and to provide corridors for wintering wildlife.
Yellowstone
The West, South and East entrances plus nearly all roads inside the park will be closed to regular vehicle traffic beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1.
The only year-round road that is open is from the North Entrance, Gardiner, Montana, through the park to Cooke City, Montana by way of Tower Junction. Oversnow travel via snowmobiles and snowcoaches begins on park roads in mid-December and runs until mid-March, depending on snow conditions.
