JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Attention playwrights: Riot Act, Inc., is accepting one-act plays for its fourth annual New Play Festival. Three one-act plays will be selected for production during the theatre organization’s 13th Annual Series of Shorts this June.

Each of the three playwrights whose plays are selected for production will receive an honorarium. The first-place winner will get a hundred bucks and the newly created Marius P. Hanford IV Award. The second and third finalists will be awarded $50 each.

Entries are due by March 30, 2017, and winners will be notified by April 27, 2017. Judges for this competition include theatre and writing professionals. All contributing playwrights will receive brief comments through a standardized critique form from a panel judge. It is a unique opportunity for playwrights to gain valuable feedback and see their work produced.

Basic Guidelines

  • Entries will be accepted from playwrights residing in the tri-state area of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana.
  • Plays should run 20-30 minutes in total (20-30 pages).
  • Plays can require no more than six total actors.
  • Set and prop concepts should be simple and must be easily broken down and moved.
  • Plays must have never been previously published or performed. Plays previously submitted may be resubmitted if reworked based on commentary received in previous years.

There is an entry fee of $20 to submit a work.
