YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — In preparation for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, Yellowstone National Park (YNP) has shared some recommendations to plan ahead for anyone looking to visit the park.
Summer is the busiest time in YNP, and the park asked in a press release that everyone “please pack your patience” and “expect crowds at popular areas and lines at entrance stations, construction areas and roadside wildlife sightings.”
Among recommendations to plan ahead for the trip, YNP reminds visitors that fireworks should be left at home and are not allowed anywhere within the park. Fire danger has risen recently and wildfires have broken out around Jackson, and “even just a spark can ignite a wildfire,” the press release states. Current fire danger in YNP is moderate but could change at any time.
The park reminds visitors to always remember to give wildlife room and maintain a minimum of 100 yards from bears, wolves and cougars and 25 yards from all other wildlife. Stay on boardwalks when at sight-seeing spots, as guests have been severely injured or killed by falling through thin thermal ground.
Campgrounds require reservations and are often filled far in advance, so plan ahead by checking online. YNP additionally reminds guests to check the forecast, bring water and pack layers to be prepared for unpredictable weather.
Park entry will be free this year from July 3 to 5 for U.S. residents.
