VICTOR, Idaho. — Music on Main’s July concert schedule is absolutely stacked with seasoned acts that know how to bring the musical heat. The next four shows include groove purveyors B-Side Players with Sghetti (July 7), holler-folk trio The Ghost of Paul Revere with Marmot Ate My Boots (July 14), Americana angel Amy Helm with The Rose McCann Band (July 21), and Remember Jones with Strumbucket (July 28).
The B-Side Players have instigated legendary Latin funk throw-downs at the Knotty Pine for nearly two decades. Largely flying under the radar to the mainstream compared to funk outfits like Galactic, they deserve as much respect as their hometown of San Diego has given them. Exploring horn-driven, polyrhythmic grooves of Latin America and the Caribbean, you’ll hear sounds of Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Brazil with a blend of soul, rock, jazz, and hip-hop.
As for the funky local opener, Sghetti, you may have seen the name advertised in a multitude of mashes with sibling band Sneaky Pete & the Secret Weapons. That makes good sense as the bands have essentially combined to make a fortified eight-piece ensemble, less Weapons’ guitarist Jack Tolan, and adding new talent like frontwoman Brianna Moore.
The July 14 show with The Ghost of Paul Revere will aim for redemption, with a rain out during last year’s date. Named after the early industrialist, this primary acoustic Portland Maine trio brings a force of vocal harmonies and serious songwriting chops.
You may recognize Amy Helm as the daughter of legendary drummer for The Band, Levon Helm. Though what she has accomplished as a solo artist is well beyond the shadow of an Americana superstar, and she always brings a soulful band with mad chops.
Newcomer to the Music on Main lineup, Remember Jones will close the July lineup. His name is Anthony D’Amato, commanding the stage as a showman and storyteller alongside a soul-pop sound. Live for Live Music described him as a “fiercely passionate frontman…holds the audience in the palm of his hand.”
Teton Valley Foundation presents Music on Main 6-10 p.m. Thursdays in Victor City Park. Free, and all-ages with food vendors, a shuttle service with $2 suggested donation, and a bike valet.
