JACKSON, Wyo. — On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Teton County School District (TCSD) #1 announced that Jackson Hole High School’s English teacher Michelle Roundy was named the Wyoming Teacher of the Year.

Roundy, who has taught for the school district for 15 years, was previously named the TCSD Teacher of the Year for the 2024/2025 school year. TCSD Executive Director of Communications and District Services Charlotte Reynolds told Buckrail that TCSD, along with other districts throughout the state, put forward their Teacher of the Year to the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) for Wyoming Teacher of the Year consideration. With final approval from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder, the WDE annually designates the Wyoming Teacher of the Year after a careful review and selection process.

“This is an incredible honor, and we could not be more proud of Michelle, her students, Jackson Hole High School and our entire district,” TCSD wrote. “Her recognition reflects not only her outstanding dedication and skill but also the collective commitment of TCSD educators to excellence in teaching and learning.”

TCSD wrote on Facebook that Roundy learned that she was given the award during this morning’s staff meeting.

“I am honored and humbled,” Roundy shared with Buckrail. “Especially as I hear from current and former students all day long. They are the reason I’m here! The Teacher of the Year is not the best teacher. I witness great teaching everyday. I am here because I am standing on the shoulders of giants who came before me and of the giants I teach with today.”

Roundy will now represent Wyoming on the national stage as she is considered for National Teacher of the Year.

“We are confident she will represent the very best of TCSD and all Wyoming educators,” TCSD wrote. “Please join us in congratulating Michelle on this well-deserved recognition!”
