JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County is seeking artist applications to create a significant piece of artwork for the future Teton County Justice Center.
Professional artists nationwide are invited to apply for the commission, which will include a suspended interior piece in the Justice Center’s stairwell, and the potential for a complementary outdoor sculpture. Wyoming artists living in surrounding communities will be given preference.
A press release from Jackson Hole Public Art says that the artwork should embody civic ideals like justice, the rule of law, humanity, inclusivity, mutual respect and community safety. The art should also connect visually to Jackson’s alpine setting and the Justice Center’s modern mountain and sustainable architecture.
“This Justice Center will serve as a cornerstone of civic life for generations to come,” said Carrie Geraci, executive director of Jackson Hole Public Art. “We are seeking an artist whose vision reflects both the strength of our judicial system and the humanity at the heart of our community.”
The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Oct. 15, and the application pool is limited to 250 applicants. Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 15, and they will each receive $750 to develop and present a site-specific concept due on Jan. 15, 2026. The final design agreement — which includes a site visit, construction drawings, engineering and permitting — will be announced by Feb. 17, 2026, and one artist will receive $5,000 per artwork, for one or two pieces.
The commission agreement, including all costs for fabrication and installation for up to two pieces, is $125,000. Installation would take place in 2028.
