JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole High School (JHHS) Robotics Team, the “Robobroncs,” made it to the world championships following their performance at this weekend’s competition in Salt Lake City at the 2023 Utah Regional.
The Robobroncs robot Yoshi finished the qualifications in ninth place after one win and two losses in their final qualification matches. That then put them in what they like to call the “Robobroncs zone,” right on the edge of being able to control their own destiny for making it to the finals. The team was then picked for the finals by Bearbotics from Monument, CO.
“We won our first game, then fell to the best and strongest alliance and were pushed into the loser’s bracket,” said coach Harrison Shipp. “We won another 2 matches but fell to the second robot alliance that was the finalist for this tournament. The students squeezed as much out of our robot as they could, but ultimately, we fell just short.”
The Utah judges humbled the team by selecting the JH RoboBroncs as the top first team at the tournament. They won the Impact Award (formerly the Chairman’s award) and punched their ticket to the championships.
Their next competition is in Colorado in a few weeks. The Robobroncs will work on a new robot with hopes for another award.
