JACKSON, Wyo. — In an effort to help the community comply with the Town’s bear-resistant trash can ordinance, JH Bear Solutions is hosting a trash can sale in the Staples parking lot Saturday, April 1, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The first 22 people to buy a bear-resistant can will only be charged $22.

Beginning April 1, residents in the “Bear Conflict Zone” will be required to store their trash in bear-resistant cans or enclosures. Residents are also asked to not “snowcone,” or overfill, their trash containers, that way they can properly close them.

The “Town Bear Conflict Zone” was established through Wyoming Game and Fish Department data. The zone is where data indicates the majority of human-bear conflicts have occurred in the last ten years. Photo: Town of Jackson

According to Kristin Combs of JH Bear Solutions, 280 cans were delivered on Monday. One hundred of those were sold to trash haulers and another 25 were sold to individual residents or businesses. The cans are being stored on the National Elk Refuge.

“They [The National Elk Refuge] have been a huge part of the success of this program by giving us a place to safely store the cans,” Combs said via email.
