JACKSON, Wyo. — A report released by the Jackson Hole Airport indicates that February 2021 airport loads were significantly lower than last year’s.

Although there were 56 more flights in February 2021 than 2020, 22% fewer passengers boarded planes in February this year compared to the previous year.

In Feb. 2020, 436 flights were made from the Jackson Hole Airport, with a load factor of 86.01%, and 42,478 passengers enplaned. Last month, in February 2021, the number of flights increased to 492, with only 33,692 passengers enplaned, and a load factor of 59.34%; a 26.66% load factor difference from the year before.

A load factor can be calculated by dividing the number of passengers by the number of seats.

January this year has seen a smaller load factor as well.

Though January 2021 had 106 more flights than January 2020, the previous year had nearly a 25% higher load factor, meaning Jan. 2021 saw fewer passengers per flight than the year prior.

The total load factor was 55.82% in Jan. 2021 compared to 80.08% in Jan. 2020. In December 2020, the load factor was 41.36%. Despite low airport loads this year in Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park saw its busiest January on record.

In April 2020 when COVID-19 drastically affected flights, the load factor was only 6.10%.
