ALPINE, Wyo. — A local man sustained several injuries Saturday night after being assaulted by two men while hunting in the Greys River Area outside of Alpine.

The victim’s family and authorities are now seeking to identify the assailants.

Authorities from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office say that around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, the victim and his friend were attacked while butchering an elk that they had killed 50 miles outside of Alpine. The assailants had accused the victim of “stealing the elk” from him.

The incident left the victim, a Jackson local, in St. John’s Hospital with a broken jaw on both sides of his face.

While there were two attackers at site of the assault, there was another individual in a vehicle associated with the group.

The victim identified the assailant’s vehicles as a white Ford F150 (2015 or newer) with Colorado plates, a black Toyota Tacoma (2000 or newer) and a lighter-colored Chevrolet or GMC 4-door truck with different color fender flares.

The assailants are described as white males, one being in his late 20’s to early 30’s medium build and approximately 5’9” with wavy dark hair, and a possible scope injury to his nose and eyebrow. The second suspect is described as being in his late 30’s with dark straight hair, approximately 5’9”. Both men were wearing jeans and hoodies of unknown colors.
