Editor’s note: A previous version of this story stated the local daily rate would increase from $17 to $20. This has been corrected to clarify that the JAC Board opted to hold the cost at $17 for locals enrolled in the JAC Parking Program.
JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Airport board voted to adopt a peak-pricing model for its parking facilities on Wednesday.
New prices will go into effect July 1. During busier travel times, the daily parking rate will jump 20% from $25 to $30. On non-peak days, the daily rate will hold steady at $25.
These peak dates will also be considered blackout dates for participants in the JAC Parking Program, the airport’s discount parking option for locals. The daily rate for non-peak days will remain at $17 for program users.
“These changes are intended to encourage passengers to use alternative modes of transportation and reduce demand on the parking lot during peak periods when the parking lot is frequently at capacity,” according to the meeting’s agenda.
The agreed-upon peak periods mostly fall around holiday weekends and popular skiing periods, including most weekends in March. Fees will be hiked on the following dates:
- Summer: July 1 to 5, Aug. 24 to 27, Aug. 31 to Sept. 4
- Fall: Nov. 17 to 26
- Winter: Dec. 22 to Jan. 2, Feb. 15 to 19, Feb. 22 to 25
- Spring: March 7 to 10, March 14 to 17, March 21 to 24, March 28 to 31
“Parking is a community-wide issue, and after much discussion, the Board decided to keep the JAC Parking Program rate the same,” Board President Ed Liebzeit said in a press release. “The Airport Board is continually seeking creative solutions to keep long-term parking available and not turn anyone away when parking long-term is their only option.”
JAC visitors can park for free for up to 90 minutes. Plans for more affordable transportation to and from the airport remain in flux.
