JACKSON, Wyo. — Believe it or not, it isn’t even technically winter yet, but the early winter weather has already made for hazardous driving conditions.

Now is the time to ask yourself: Is your car ready? Driving in Wyoming is dangerous for a number of reasons and snow only amplifies the risk. Bridger Teton National Forest (BTNF) and the U.S. National Weather Service (USNWS) want to remind drivers what they should have in their cars before heading out in winter weather conditions.

  • Jumper cables
  • Flares or reflective triangle
  • Ice scraper
  • Car cell phone charger
  • Blanket
  • Map
  • Cat litter or sand for better tire traction

Wyoming cars should also be equipped with solid winter tires and/or chains. Flashlights, a warm layer and a tow rope are also recommended.
