TETON COUNTY, Idaho — Jeremy Albert Best has been charged with three counts of murder in the first degree, according to an indictment that was unsealed by a Teton County grand jury in Driggs today.
He will be tried for all three murders in Teton County, Idaho, despite the discovery of one victim, 10-month-old Zeke Gregory Best, in Bonneville County.
The indictment includes new information about the death of the infant, noting that Jeremy Best is charged with “inflicting an injury on Zeke Gregory Best’s neck using a knife and thereby causing his death.”
The three counts represent the deaths of Kali Jean Best, her unborn child and Zeke Best, as well as three enhancements for use of deadly weapons in the commissions of all three murders.
According to the press release by Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney Randy Neal, the indictment supersedes the amended criminal complaint against Jeremy Best in Teton County, and thus there will be no preliminary hearing.
Prosecutors in both Teton and Bonneville Counties are requesting that the public “refrain from uninformed speculation regarding this case, including the Defendant’s mental state, the facts surrounding the killings or otherwise,” the press release states.
“I understand that people want and deserve facts about what happened, but we implore the public to be patient and wait for facts to come out through the open court process,” Teton County Prosecuting Attorney Bailey Smith said in a statement.
Neal highlighted that an overwhelming amount of publicity and circulated misinformation before a trial can affect the ability of the State and Defendant to secure an unbiased jury from the local community.
The case will be arraigned before a district judge at a later date.
