If you only see one live dance performance, make it this one
JACKSON, WY— Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is comprised of some of today’s most versatile and talented dancers. Next Wednesday, July 18, this superstar company performs work by two modern dance luminaries. Watch these incredible artists rise to the challenges presented by choreographers Ohad Naharin and Crystal Pite.
Naharin is a larger-than-life presence in the dance world. The inventor of the Gaga movement language, his work ranges from the gut-wrenchingly visceral to the scrupulously entertaining. Decadance/Chicago is an umbrella work that encompasses Naharin’s diverse choreographic vision. One of the sections that Naharin has chosen to showcase in this incarnation of Decadance includes a deceptively simple and riveting group dance to the Passover song Echad Mi Yodea. A semi-circle of dancers in black suits explode out of their chairs with charged precision, flinging their limbs in seemingly impossible arrangements and creating powerful and evocative imagery. Watch the Mr. Gaga film trailer for a sense of who Naharin is and the type of dance he creates.
The invariably sought-after Pite is “one of the most talented and intriguing choreographers working today” according to The New York Times and “one of the greatest choreographic minds of her generation” by The Financial Times. Words don’t do Pite justice. Click here and see for yourself! Pite is exceedingly gifted, smart and clever – her works shock you, in craft and in concept. Pite’s ability to communicate ideas, emotions and stories through her choreography is second to none. Solo Echo will offer audiences a sense of awe, beauty and discovery.
