POCATELLO, Idaho — A swath of southeastern Idaho is expected to see dangerously high temperatures starting on Wednesday, July 10, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Residents are being urged to take precautions as temperatures are expected to hit 100 to 105 in eastern Magic Valley, the lower Snake River Plain and valley locations in the South Hills; and 95 to 100 in the upper Snake River Plain and valley locations in the Central Mountains. The excessive heat advisory is expected to last through Sunday, July 14.
NWS advises people to be sure to drink lots of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible and avoid the sun in order to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke.
Residents are urged to check in on relatives and neighbors and not to leave children or pets in unattended vehicles. The temperature inside a vehicle rises quickly, and can spike 10 degrees in as little as ten minutes, even when outside air is in the 70s, NWS cautions.
