JACKSON HOLE, WYO – It’s off-season but the music hasn’t completely ceased, it’s just getting a bit more off the beaten path.
Check out one of the last Wyoming shows for The Otters, a “garage soul” and “semi aquatic rock n’ roll” duo playing mostly original music and featuring Jay Alm on guitar/vocals and Zach Zimmerman on drums. Zimmerman just left his position as Station Manager at Jackson Hole Community Radio (KHOL) and is on the heels of moving out of town. Alm’s style represents a scathing, soulful blend of alt-acoustic psychedelia and rootsy lyrical meanderings, delivered on six and twelve-string guitar, and the occasional mandolin.
Hole Bowl has become an occasional venue for local bands, and Thursday will feature one of the first touring acts to stage up at the bowling alley/eatery—Denver-based Part & Parcel.
Formed less than three years ago, the batch of longtime friends engaged the popular Colorado style of progressive string band music that features bluegrass instrumentation with elements of funk, punk, folk, rock, and metal. The five-piece released its debut EP earlier this year, Happy Hour, and listeners “will find themselves tapping their toes to a fiddle tune one minute, then head banging to a righteous rock song the next,” according to the band’s bio.
