JACKSON, Wyo. — Waking up to ice-caked windshields and a cranky car start this morning? You are not alone. Several records are falling by the wayside today as overnight lows tested thermometer mercury and car batteries.

Worland, you win! Monday morning’s -18 degrees in Worland broke the all-time low for the month of October by two touchdowns. Previously, the coldest October ever got in Worland was -4F.

Not even Big Piney (America’s Little Ice Box) could top (or ‘bottom,’ as it were) Worland’s frigid freakout, though it was likely close. Big Piney was forecasted to dip to 18-below-zero but official tallies have not yet been released by the National Weather Service.

Jackson’s high of 20 degrees yesterday was the coldest ever for October 25, besting the old mark by 10 degrees. The coldest morning low ever recorded for October 26 in Jackson was 16° in 2011. That record surely fell as many locals reported an easy dozen degrees on the wrong side of zero last night.
