JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson/Teton County Affordable Housing Department has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) in search of a team to remodel the Benson cabin at 445 East Kelly Avenue so it can again be inhabitable. For all parties interested, a pre-bid walk-through of the cabin will take place on Jan. 13, at 9 a.m. The deadline to submit proposals is Feb. 6.

In 2024, the Town approved a request to set aside a “Historic Cabin Area” to accommodate the Benson cabin. The property on which the cabin is located was purchased as part of a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Region to build 18 affordable townhomes.

“Rehabilitating the interior of the cabin as a livable one-bedroom home with modern amenities and repairing the exterior for long-term preservation is the final step in bringing this historic homestead back to life,” the press release states.

The project is expected to serve as a model for future reuse of existing resources that both “support the historic character of the community while providing locals with secure and affordable homes.”

When complete, the cabin will act as housing for Teton County employees. More information regarding the project can be found on the Housing Department’s website. The complete RFP can be viewed here.
