BIG PINEY, Wyo. — The Horse Fire on Bridger-Teton National Forest’s (BTNF) Big Piney Ranger District is currently burning on 2,321 acres of heavy, dry timber, according to a Thursday update by BTNF.
The lightning-caused fire that has been burning for almost two weeks is being fought by 203 personnel. According to InciWeb, it is 44% contained, and crews are continuing to work in the area around the burn scar from the 2007 Horse Creek Fire. Closures remain in place in the area.

“Firefighter safety remains a top priority as crews work through areas of heavy snags and challenging terrain,” InciWeb posted on Thursday.
The forecast calls for a slight warming and drying trend through Thursday and Friday. Winds will remain light then increase in speed Thursday afternoon when gusts could reach 25 mph. Friday will see a similar pattern with wind and gusts likely to reach 30 mph in the afternoon. Relative humidity will drop to around 20% during the afternoons and increase to about 45% overnight. No precipitation is expected through Saturday.
