JACKSON, Wyo. — In late August, the Snake River was alive with energy as nearly 70 women, dressed in pink, gathered for the annual Stripping for a Cure Fishing Day. Their bright gear and cheerful camaraderie couldn’t be missed, as female anglers floated the river, casting their lines with purpose. The day was about more than just fishing — it was about raising funds to support cancer patients receiving treatment at St. John’s Health.
The weekend wrapped up with a lively Safari-themed party, open to everyone, featuring games, a raffle, silent and live auctions, dinner, cocktails and entertainment — all of which helped reach an exciting new fundraising goal of $200,000. These funds will be split between the Oncology Patient Support Fund and the Cancer Survivorship Program, helping to provide crucial services for cancer patients and their families.
The Oncology Patient Support Fund offers financial assistance to patients undergoing treatment at St. John’s Health, helping cover medical bills, prescription costs, travel expenses, lodging and other essential needs. In addition, the Cancer Survivorship Program provides a variety of holistic services, including acupuncture, mental health counseling, occupational therapy and other wellness programs, all designed to support survivors in managing the long-term effects of cancer treatment.

“There’s a powerful camaraderie felt on the river and at the fundraising party, a unity in knowing we’re helping those facing life’s hardest battles.”
Blair Loughrie, executive director of Stripping for a Cure
“Cancer has touched everyone in this community, either personally or through someone they care about,” said Blair Loughrie, executive director of Stripping for a Cure who leads the organization with a deep passion for the cause and the people it touches. “There’s a powerful camaraderie felt on the river and at the fundraising party, a unity in knowing we’re helping those facing life’s hardest battles. This shared purpose is what makes this event so meaningful.”

Thanks to the unwavering support of Stripping for a Cure and its generous donors, 230 cancer patients at St. John’s Health received not only vital medical care but also the financial and emotional support needed to navigate their treatment journeys in the last fiscal year. With each year’s success, Stripping for a Cure encourages women to mark their calendars for August to take part in and learn more about fly fishing, and invites everyone to join the annual fundraising party — all to support even more patients through this meaningful cause.
“Stripping for a Cure takes pride in our dual mission: raising funds for patients battling cancer and supporting women’s participation in the sport of fly fishing,” Blair concluded. “You don’t need to be a pro — just a passion for helping others and a sense of adventure. And if fishing’s not your thing, you can still support our mission by joining us at the fundraising event with your family and friends!”
