JACKSON, Wyo. — Homecoming went the home team’s way Friday as the Jackson Broncs obliterated the Evanston Red Devils with little trouble, 58-7.
The Broncs again did it behind their juggernaut offense, now the highest scoring team in the 3A. Jackson is averaging 42.4 points a game. On Friday, the Broncs scored every time they touched the football in the first half with the exception of their final possession when the clock ran out. The Broncs also had the ball on the Evanston 1 yard line when time ran out in regulation.
After receiving the opening kickoff, the Black & Orange capped a 3-play scoring drive with a touchdown run by Brody Hasenack but it was a flea-flicker to Colter Dawson that put Jackson in the red zone.
Sadler Smith was sharp, finding Sam Scott on three long touchdown tosses. Dawson also caught a TD pass.
With the offense clicking on every cylinder, Jackson even found a couple more ways to score. A season-first kickoff return for a touchdown belonged to Clancy Meagher for the Broncs only score in the second half when the JV team led the way for coach David Joyce. The defense also came up with its first safety of the season.
Defensively, Jackson got a big game out of Steven Heffron. The defensive line was dominant again. Alexei DiDonato played a strong game at free safety, coming up with one big touchdown-saving pass breakup.
With the win, Jackson moves to 6-1 on the season, 3-0 in conference. In other games, Star Valley surprised Cody, handing the ‘other’ Broncs their first loss of the season, 21-14. Powell struggled early with Green River but put the Wolves away with a 44-20 score.
That sets up an exciting finish as Jackson travels to Powell next week and finishes the season at home against Cody. The Broncs will be masters of their own destiny after having defeated Star Valley, they now get a chance to finish out the regular season against a pair of Park County powerhouses.
