JACKSON, Wyo. — Heads up, folks.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for a large swath of the state, including Teton County and Yellowstone National Park: “Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. … The most likely period of possible flooding looks to be Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.”
Be prepared for the potential flooding of rivers, creeks and streams.
“Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop,” the watch states.
In past flood warnings, the weather service advised that it is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters.
“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the agency advised. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.”
