JACKSON, Wyo. — The Grand Teton Music Festival is midway through its 65th anniversary season and is celebrating the Wyoming summer with a week of free concerts & events! From full orchestra concerts in Teton Village to chamber music throughout the community, read on for more information about this week of free music and experience the GTMF summer fun.
On the Road: Out West at Jackson Hole History Museum
On the Road brings live classical music to audiences in Teton County and surrounding communities through free concerts performed by Festival Orchestra musicians and hosted with GTMF community partners.
An evening of silent Western films with Buster Keaton and Roscoe Arbuckle, accompanied by live music from GTMF musicians Rita Porfiris and Anton Miller. We begin with “The Great Train Robbery” (1902) one of the earliest of the genre, with its famous and shocking final scene. Next will be the hilarious antics of Buster Keaton and Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, as they turn a traditional western film into satire in “Out West” (1918). The music was arranged by Rita Porfiris to interact with the scenes and includes works by Grofé, Gliere, Grosz, Copland, and Mark O’Connor.
The event will take place on Tuesday, July 21, at 6 p.m. at Jackson Hole History Museum. Free and open to the public.
Music of the American West
Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with true Jackson Hole spirit! The Festival Orchestra, led by Music Director Sir Donald Runnicles, brings the wide-open landscapes of the American West to life in a rousing program of classical Western tunes, including Copland’s Rodeo, excerpts from Grofe’s Grand Canyon Suite, Young’s Shane Suite and more.

The event will take place on Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m. Lawn seating is free and open to the public.
On the Road: Poetic Impressions at St. John’s Episcopal Church
The otherworldly sounds of a flute, viola, and harp trio fill the beautiful sanctuary of St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Jackson, featuring music by Sir Arnold Bax, Claude Debussy, and local composer Carrie Saladino.
