JACKSON, Wyo. — The Post 43 Giants showed a lot of battle when they squared off with Lone Peak Utah last night to start the Teton Classic Invitational.
One of the most difficult things to do for a ballclub is to stay close and keep confident on the losing end of a 1-run game. Jackson held tough behind strong efforts from starter Seth Christiansen‚ who went the first three innings for the Giants allowing one run on three hits while fanning five—and Parker Bleggi, who pitched a scoreless two innings.
As Giants pitchers quelled Lone Peak bats, Jackson tried to muster offense of their own as a tight 1-0 game held up until the 6th inning when Lone Peak broke through for four runs in the top half.
It should have been enough to crumble any team’s will but the Post 43 gang did not quit, and finally got to Lone Peak starter Brock Anderson.
Steven Ashurts led off the bottom of the 6th with a line-drive single. Singles from Mason Wright and Seth Christiansen set the scene for Quentin Bruno who yanked one out to left to draw the Giants within one. The Giants’ rally died there and they could not scratch one across in the final 7th inning.
The 5-4 loss drops Jackson to 6-17 on the season with plenty more baseball this weekend. The Giants take on Thunder Ridge at 8:15 p.m. tonight. They’ll also face Ft. Morgan Colorado on Saturday (11:15 a.m.). Sunday’s games include Jackson vs. Evanston Outlaws at 11:15 a.m., and Jackson vs. Rock Springs at 1:30 p.m.
