JACKSON, Wyo. — Admit it: some of you have had your gaper day outfits picked out for weeks. Maybe even since Gaper Day ended last year. You have your jorts, your retro onesies, your Pit Vipers, now collecting dust in a pile in your gear closet.
Gaper Day looks different this year. There will be no snow blades, no “beach” parties on Casper or Thunder. County and state health orders mandate the day be spent at home and only with people who live in your household.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t still gape. A gaper isn’t just a rookie on the slopes. As Buckrail has said before, it’s a fashion statement and a way of life. Gapers can, and must, adapt to these new times.
“Gaper gap” no longer means the gaping space between your helmet and your goggles. This year, it’s the space between you and the next person — at least six feet.
So put on your spandex, your denim, your glitter — from the safety of your own home — and show us your gaper day look. Send us your outfits, tag us on social media. We’ll share any submission that makes us smile, is family-friendly, and promotes good physical distancing.
Party on, gapers.
