WYOMING – Several sports news sources are reporting former Wyoming Cowboy quarterback Josh Allen has signed with the Buffalo Bills. Allen was drafted 7thoverall in the first round of the NFL draft after the Bills traded up to get him. He was the third QB taken in the draft.
The contract is a four-year deal with an option for a fifth. According to sports contract website Spotrac.com, the deal is for a guaranteed $21,183,038 including a $13,485,846 signing bonus.
The Bills have not said how they plan to use the 22-year-old rookie but he will likely start the season as the backup and perhaps the team’s third-string signal caller.
At 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Allen is a raw but strong-armed and athletic quarterback. During his two years as a starter at Wyoming, he completed 365 of 649 passes for 5,066 yards with 44 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.
Allen is expected to be at St. John Fisher College today when the Buffalo Bills report to training camp, and he’ll be on the field Thursday night for the first practice after finally signing his rookie contract.
