JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Hey buckrailers! No, not you our followers, but actual buck and rail fence builders. Have we got a deal for you.
The Blackrock Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest is issuing a limited number of post and pole permits for a 10-acre unit on the Fourmile Road area just north of the Blackrock Ranger Station off of Highway 26/287.
“The Forest Service offers the trees for thinning to improve forest health,” said Mark Keil, Forester for the Blackrock Ranger District. “Our hope is to offer the wood very affordably to the general public so it can be used productively. Possible uses may be for post or pole fences, firewood, chipped for landscaping, or other uses.
The cutting unit is identified with post and ribbon off the Fourmile Meadow Road, and Forest Service Roads 30050/30060/30061 (Rosie’s Ridge Road).
Minimum sales for the permits will be $20 and 100 trees maximum, per household, per year. The trees available range between 3 and 7 inches in diameter at breast height (dbh). Trees above 7dbh have been painted with orange paint and are not available for harvest.
Permit holders are asked to pile limbs and tops removed from the trees before leaving the area. The cutting area is open now until November 1 and will be open next season at the end of July, 2018 – November 1, 2018, depending on the remaining material available.
