JACKSON, Wyo. — Kids ages 4-21 will have the opportunity to showcase their farm animals this Sunday at Jackson’s first ever livestock jackpot, Rumble in the Tetons.
Hosted by the Jackson-based 4-H BaaMaa Lamb & Goat Club, the event will be attended by young people from Idaho, Utah and Wyoming’s livestock communities. Different events will center around pigs, goats and cows. The event will serve as preview for those also planning to show livestock at the Teton County Fair later this month.
A jackpot show operates similarly to a county fair, but with a larger competition pool. Kids will have the chance to learn from competitors they wouldn’t typically see at their local fairs. In addition, the judges are less rushed, and are thus able to offer more detailed feedback about animal care and showmanship. No animals will be for sale.
Entrants will compete in four different age brackets:
- 4 to 8: Peewee
- 9 to 11: Junior
- 12 to 15: Intermediate
- 16 to 21: Senior
Winners of each bracket will receive a belt buckle, a banner and a cash prize. Runners up will receive custom camp chairs. The organizers of Rumble in the Tetons aspire to make this an annual event and fundraiser.
Rumble in the Tetons will take place at the Teton County Fairgrounds’ Heritage Arena. Registration and weigh-in begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the swine show at 9 a.m., the lamb/goat show at 11 a.m. and the beef show at 2 p.m.

4-H is a network of youth organizations dedicated to engaging kids in rural life through hands-on education. The name 4-H is derived from the four words beginning with the letter H in the organization’s original motto: Head, Heart, Hands and Health.
A new bill went into effect on July 1 classifying 4-H as a cocurricular activity in Wyoming, allowing members to obtain excused absences for participation in the program.
