JACKSON, Wyo. — At 9:47 a.m. Jackson Hole Fire / EMS was called to Jackson Elementary School (JES) after receiving a report of five children feeling ill during a presentation.

The students were participating in the annual school-wide wax museum presentation when five children presented with symptoms that raised concern about carbon monoxide poisoning. No carbon monoxide alarm went off.

Charlotte Reynolds, communications officer for Teton County School District #1, confirmed that after an emergency call from the school in response to the children’s symptoms, an engine and medic team was dispatched to JES. Both the library and the rest of the building were tested for carbon monoxide.

“The fire department didn’t find any indication of carbon monoxide or anything else,” Reynolds said. Because of this, the school did not evacuate and resumed operations for the rest of the day.

The principal was off-site for a meeting but parents were in attendance for the presentations and with their children for the incident. Four of the five children feeling sick went home with their parents.
