JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Jackson Hole Fire/EMS responded to a structure fire yesterday at a town home on 666 Flat Creek Drive. The fire started inside of an electric dryer. Fire crews were able to suppress the fire quickly before it extended any further into the unit.
Fire Marshal Kathy Clay blamed the incident on lint buildup.
“This was a preventable fire,” Clay said. “The simple process of cleaning the lent filter after every dryer use keeps this kind of fire from happening.”
The unit’s tenants were able to reoccupy the space.
Later in the morning, crews were called to investigate a grass fire. Although the “smoke” turned out to be a dust cloud from the work of a street cleaner, citizens are reminded that grass fires are a common occurrence at this time of the year.
“Last year’s grass starts to dry and it is easy for fires to start and spread,” Clay remarked. “Use caution when burning in the county at this time of the year to prevent a run-away fire. Always have a way to put the fire out on hand and stop burning when the wind comes up.”
